Meet Louise Piper

I’ve loved horses all my life. It started when my big sister put me on her friend’s pony in North Wales when I was barely two. Now it’s turned into something incredibly more meaningful for me.

My journey to here hasn’t been direct – far from it. Over the last forty years, I’ve raised a family, worked full time, lost too many loved ones, conquered two life threatening illnesses and survived two destructive relationships. Overcoming these hardships was far from easy, but little did I know they’d lead me to helping others.

Attending counselling sessions, researching and reading helped me see the writing on the wall – patterns that had carved worn out paths in my life. But it was at Equine Assisted Learning that everything changed. In a round pen, a horse taught me that I had no voice. This was a powerful awakening for me, an invaluable lesson at a critical point. It resonated to the depths of my soul. Pain and trauma had silenced the person I once was. That discovery led to greater healing. It was on that day that I knew I wanted to provide the same opportunity for others. The dream of working with horses and helping others was planted in my heart – and the seed began to grow.

I’m now a certified facilitator of Equine Assisted Learning. I partner with horses to provide a life skills program that empowers women to live their best life.

Meet Our Teachers, The Horses:

Ely - Evening pasture - April 21, 2021.J

Ely

Mustang, 11 Years Old

Ely is a soulful mustang, who is sweet and quiet. Born near Ely, Nevada in the Battle Mountain herd management area (HMA). After being live caught and processed (gelded, branded etc.) he was shipped to the Bureau of Land Management mustang holding facility at Elm Creek, Nebraska.

Ely was purchased by his owner, after friends found him at the holding facility, where he started his new life in the Yukon.  Ely is now part of the herd in Chilliwack at Discovery Equine at Cheam Stables.

Duke April 24, 2021.JPG

Duke

Clydesdale, Approximately 15 Years Old

Duke is a beautiful gentle giant, who loves attention. He came to Chilliwack in the fall of 2020, along with his herd, Ely and Cody.  Duke was a Budweiser foal and even though his stature is grand – standing at 18 hands – it didn’t quite meet their mark. In his life, he’s spent time with the Amish and in Alaska, where his current owner found him.

The opportunity to partner with these beautiful horses is a priceless gift.

"The thing about meditation is: You become more and more you."
